Bach: Ach Herr, mich armen Sünder, BWV 135

/Music of the 17th and 18th centuries/
[Cantata Sunday]
'Ach Herr, mich armen Sünder' (Ah Lord, poor sinner that I am), BWV 135 is written for the third Sunday after Trinity in 1724. The most important theme is from the end of the Gospel reading: 'Thus I say to you that there shall be joy before the angels of God over a single sinner who repents' (Luke 15.10). Thus the repentance of the sinner is the subject of the chorale cantata. (Dürr 2005: 415)
